A LETTER FROM CO-OWNER MATT GERDING —
Call me biased but there aren’t a lot of college towns with concert venues like The Blue Note. Since 1980 we’ve had a mission — to impact the community and culture of Columbia, Missouri by creating experiences and memories that you can’t find anywhere else in the city. We work hard every day to convince young and old that there is no better nightlife experience than one that features live music. In case you’re wondering, there’s not — it’s science.
I grew up in Columbia and went to high school in Kansas City where I started going to punk shows and fell in love with live music. My first show at the Blue Note was the classic rock band “America” when I was 16. I can’t even remember why I went to that specific show, but I’ll never forget what it felt like to walk into this place. Seeing that many people celebrating music and life simultaneously was pure magic. Throughout college I went to a lot of amazing shows at The Blue Note and Mojo’s (now Rose Music Hall). Though I got sucked into the drink special culture here and there, I always felt most at home at a show.
So I surrounded myself forever with live music because I strongly believed that there is nothing like being at a great concert. We bought the place from Richard King in 2014 who has always shared that belief and pumped life into this building and community with incredible concerts since 1980. This place is a cathedral of live music, it’s part of the fabric of the college experience at Mizzou. We are here to serve, but only if you take the chance. Choose your nightlife wisely….
You’ll never remember quarter draw night, but you’ll always remember an epic concert experience. Don’t take it from me…TAKE NOTE from the people who went to these shows at The Blue Note or Mojos/Rose Music Hall….
